Bergen Prosecutor: 'Helping Hand' Continues To Reach Opioid Addicts
HACKENSACK, N.J. – More than three dozen heroin users arrested in Bergen County over a four-day period got more than summonses to appear in court: They were each also offered the opportunity to connect with a recovering addict who could one day help save his or her life. Wappingers Falls Police Use Narcan To Rescue Overdose Victim
A Village of Wappingers Falls man is alive thanks to quick-acting cops and the use of Narcan. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday when Officers Devin Ludwig and Joshua Kemlage responded the Tinkleman Plaza on Route 9 for a report of an unconscious male, said Sgt. P. Capparelli. Some fast-thinking police officers in Orange County helped save a man’s life using Narcan to prevent a fatal overdose. Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, officers were dispatched to an Emergency Medical Services call at Round 1 Bowling and Amusement Center on Galleria Drive, where there were reports of a man possibly suffering from an overdose. Wallkill Sgt. Daniel Ward and Police Officer Daniel Graham responded to an Emergency Medical Services call earlier this month at a residence on Meadow Lakes Drive. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 24-year-old female from the Town of Wallkill unconscious on a bedroom floor. The victim was unresponsive and demonstrating signs of an overdose. Elmwood Park Police Revive Garfield OD Victim, 19, Found Face-Down In Snow
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Elmwood Park police revived a 19-year-old overdose victim found face-down in the snow early Tuesday evening. It took two rounds of Narcan from Officer Chris Finn to help bring the unconscious victim around after he was found around 5 p.m. on Mill Street, Police Chief Michael Foligno said. The Elmwood Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson. A resident who witnessed the save praised police and EMTs for their fast and decisive work in rescuing the victim.
